Do you find yourself organizing people and planning events and fundraisers in your work or personal life?
With a Professional Meeting Planning Certificate from Temple University Fort Washington, you will formalize those skills. Coursework provides an overview of the meetings industry, the various types of meetings and their components, and the basic skills and knowledge necessary to become a successful meeting planner.
Throughout the program, the instructors, all of whom are members of Meeting Professionals International, teach a different area of planning. They are knowledgeable and provide insight to the industry. Some of the students, many of whom are in the meeting planning industry, shared their stories and expertise as well.
Non-credit courses and electives in the Certificate Program in Professional Meeting Planning will be held throughout September, October, and November.
Topics include Fundamentals of Meeting Planning (September 15, 22 and 29), Site Inspection and Selection (October 3 at Normandy Farm), Breaking into the Meeting Planning Field (November 5), Budget and Finance for Meeting Planners (October 6 and 13), Technology and Audiovisuals for Meeting Planners (October 20 and 27), Food and Beverage (November 3 and 10) and Negotiations and Contracts (November 17 and 24).
“The certificate program is an opportunity to interact and network with other meeting planners or to break into an entirely new field,” said Marylou Delizia, Director of Temple University Fort Washington. “It provides a framework of understanding of the meeting planning field and students gain practical experience that they can use the next day at work.”
Certificate programs are a collection of courses “with a specific curricular sensibility,” Delizia said.
“When someone completes a certificate program, they should have a certain level of competency in a given set of skills — skills that could expand their marketability in the job field or enhance their enjoyment of a personal hobby,” she said.
The Professional Meeting Planning Certificate Program is a 38-hour program with courses presented in a seminar style. The program features hands-on learning and Continuing Education Units are offered. Courses examine every aspect of the field, from budgets and financing to special events to food and beverage to handling international meetings. Instructors are meeting professionals in the hospitality industry in the Delaware Valley. The Philadelphia Chapter of Meeting Professionals International endorses the program.
More than 500 non-credit courses covering a wide range of fields and topics are offered at Temple University Ambler and Temple University Fort Washington during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
